Linear Response Protection™ is Newton-Rider’s patented helmet architecture — designed to manage both linear and rotational impact forces through its flexible multi-pad construction.

Rethinking Rotational Impact Protection in Cycling Helmets – Newton-Rider N1neo

Rotational impact management is an integral part of N1neo's Linear Response Protection architecture. Rather than adding a separate rotational protection system to a conventional rigid helmet, Newton-Rider has developed a semi-soft and flexible construction designed to respond to both linear and rotational components of an impact.

N1neo uses nine individual impact-absorbing pads mounted on a flexible liner. Each pad combines a firm yet flexible polycarbonate shell, NR MI Foam and a non-Newtonian insert.

This architecture allows the protective elements to respond more independently to impact forces, while the flexible liner enables controlled movement within the overall structure.

The objective is to manage the complex combination of linear and rotational forces that can occur in real-world bicycle crashes, including the rotational head motion associated with brain injury.

Key benefits

  • Integrated impact response: Linear and rotational components are addressed within the same protective architecture.
  • Nine independently responsive pads: Individual protective elements are designed to respond to impact forces through their materials and geometry.
  • Flexible liner: Allows controlled movement between protective elements without relying on an additional slip liner.
  • Linear Response Protection: Designed to manage impact energy from initial contact across a broader spectrum of forces and impact directions.
  • Everyday comfort: The semi-soft, flexible construction also enables a slimmer, more adaptable and foldable helmet for urban cycling.

The fundamental difference is that rotational response is part of N1neo's original material logic — not an additional feature added to a rigid EPS structure.

Key takeaway: Linear Response Protection™ is not limited to linear impacts. N1neo's nine independent pads and flexible liner are designed to respond to impact energy from initial contact across a broader spectrum of impact forces, incorporating both linear and rotational components — without relying on an additional slip liner.
